Project Tanzania: Health for Older People

Older people's health proves to be a major issue in Northwest Tanzania. Older people have limited access to health care and often have health problems.

Kwa Wazee has started a combined project in 2010 to improve this situation. On the one hand, older people join an existing health insurance per household, in order to have better access to healthcare facilities in case they get sick. On the other hand, the older people receive training from Community Health Workers (CHV's), to prevent diseases. These trainings exist of simple exercises to make the older people physically stronger. The CHV's also play an important role in the identification of (health) problems among the older people, resulting in a faster response to these problems.
